KCDP Convention Overview

KCDP Conventions are called to order by the Convention Chair.

  • Precinct Convention begins, and precincts with more than three nominees for Precinct Committee hold elections.
  • Teller tallies election results and announces newly elected Precinct Committee members in each precinct.
  • Each Precinct Committee elects a Precinct Committee Chair.

County Convention begins, and newly elected Precinct Committee members gather to nominate and vote for County Executive Committee members.

  • Convention Chair opens the floor for nominations.
  • Precinct Committee members nominate 10 women and 10 men to serve on the County Executive Committee.
  • Teller records nominations for the County Executive Committee.
  • If gender balance is not achieved during nominations, elections may still commence, and the County Executive Committee must submit a waiver to the KDP at the close of the convention.
  • Once nominations are complete, a motion is made to close nominations and is seconded.

If there are more than 20 nominations for the County Executive Committee, Precinct Committee members will vote by secret ballot.

  • Each nominee for the County Executive Committee will be given an opportunity to state their name, city, and 1 to 2 sentences about why they would like to serve on the Committee. These will be timed to ensure that all nominees can be included.
  • Ballots are distributed, and Precinct Committee members vote to elect the new members of the County Executive Committee.
  • Teller tallies election results and announces the new members of the County Executive Committee.

Precinct Committee members nominate and vote for State Delegates to attend the Congressional and State Conventions in Owensboro on June 14.

  • Convention Chair opens the floor to nominations.
  • Precinct Committee members nominate 41 delegates and eight alternates.
  • Teller records nominations for State Delegates.
  • Once nominations are complete, a motion is made to close nominations and is seconded.
  • If there are more than 41 State Delegate and eight alternate nominations, Precinct Committee members vote by secret ballot.
  • Teller tallies election results and announces newly elected State Delegates.

KCDP County Conventions are closed by the Convention Chair.

  • Newly elected Precinct Committee members and State Delegates must complete the required paperwork to submit to the KDP before leaving the Convention. You will be given a QR Code to access a Google Form to submit the paperwork.

  • Newly elected County Executive members meet to elect a Chair and Vice Chair after the convention and submit required paperwork and waivers to KDP.
