What is a Precinct Committee Member?

A Precinct Committee Member (PCM) is an elected official of the Democratic Party and serves as the Party’s direct link to their community. 

Their role is to connect with Democrats in their precinct, build relationships, encourage voter turnout for Democratic candidates, work to help win local, state, and national elections, and promote the Democratic Party's values throughout the year.

PCMs are the most important grassroots-level elected officials in the Democratic Party structure. The members of the Precinct Committee are the chief organizers of their neighborhood. They are integral to how County Executive Committees function and ensure their goals are achieved.

Structure of Precinct Committees in Kenton County

• 72 Precincts and 216 Precinct Committee Members.
• Each precinct elects a committee of three people: two people of different genders and one youth (under 40) of any gender to serve a four-year term.
• Precinct Committees choose one member to serve as Precinct Chair to ensure the committee's duties are carried out.
• Training is provided to newly elected Precinct Committee Members.

Responsibilities of a Precinct Committee Member

• Know Your Precinct: Introduce yourself to Democratic households and voters in your precinct.
• Recruit Volunteers: Build a local team to support Democratic outreach in your precinct..
• Organize Outreach: Support the County Party’s organizing goals by developing and implementing voter contact efforts in your precinct, including canvassing and phone banks.
• Grow Democratic Voter Registration: Register new Democrats in your precinct.
• Support Democratic Candidates: Help dentify, recruit, and back strong candidates.
• Promote Democratic Campaigns: Ensure visibility and engagement in your precinct.
• Work with the County Party: Attend meetings to stay informed and provide updates.
• Represent and be accountable to the voters in your precinct.
